Buying A Digital Camera

When shopping for a digital camera you maybe intimidated by some of the technological advances that these wonderful little gadgets bring about. Thus people often have difficulty deciding on the right camera to meet their needs. As a matter of fact a good many cameras will meet the needs of an average user. The digital cameras come in a variety of megapixels today and 3 to 8 mega-pixels are very common. A picture taken with a 3 mega-pixel camera will look just as good to the human eye as any other. Thus, if you do not intend to print poster size, then an 8 mega-pixel camera maybe beyond your needs.
Most cameras come with Optical Zoom. This is when the lens mechanism is moving in and out, giving the appearance of a close up. Most cameras comes with between 3X and 12X Optical Zoom. The higher optical zoom requires a larger lens size, so a camera with 10X or 12X zoom will probably not fit in your pocket.
A memory card is usually required when buying a digital camera, so be prepared to buy a memory card. Most cameras come with a small amount of internal memory to store pictures on, most will hold only 10 or 15 pictures. If you watch the sales fliers, you should be able to get a 1 gigabyte for about $20 bucks. A 1 gigabyte card will hold over 800 pictures with a 3 mega-pixel camera.
Most manufacturers will include a set of alkaline batteries, but these will not last very long, as many cameras will kill these in 5 or 6 pictures. Go purchase a set of NiMH batteries with a charger for around $30 bucks. These come as a pair and extra pair to take pictures with.
Photo editing software is available, the most popular being Adobe’s Photo-shop Elements. There is also many other titles available that you may use, including the less expensive Photo Explosion and Microsoft Digital Image.
There are many new ink-jet printers that are photo quality, and telling the difference between your own printer and one from your local photo shop is very difficult.
So be sure to read the user reviews on the model you may consider buying. If there is some problems, people will write about the defects, clarity of pictures, and ease of use, etc. Thus you can be sure to get the right camera for your use.
