Can A Video Game Make You Vomit? Yes It Can.

Mirrors Edge  There is a hot first person action game that is sweeping the Ps3 community and it is said to make players experience severe nausea and even vomiting while playing. Yes, you heard me right the game has a warning that states that playing this game can cause nausea and vomiting. The game is called Mirror’s Edge and it is a first person action game that is based on a message courier that travels across the rooftops in a police locked down city carrying black-market messages by using feats of parkour and acrobatics.  Constant leaps over 40 story gaps and tight rope-walking over suspended pipes are just some of the feats you will encounter in this urban ninja first person runner.  Sony has some real good ps3 adventure games but none of them can compare to this one.

Mirror’s Edge is an action intense game that will have you on the edge of your seat while your on the edge of a building looking down at a 40 story drop. It takes about 15 minutes into the game to get all the nausea brewing like a volcano that is ready to errupt.  How can a video game cause nausea and even vomiting?

Mirror’s Edge is the first game to hack into a person’s proprioception?  I know your like proprio What?  Proprioception is basically your body’s sense of its own physicality or its knowing of itself and where each body part is at all times and what each part is doing even when you are not looking at them.  An example of this would be dribling a basketball with out looking down at it or passing a baseball from one hand to the next behind your back or even walking up and down the stairs without looking down at your feet.  Mirror’s Edge interrupts your proprioception and this is what throws your mind off give you a feeling of motion sickness and nausea. In this game you see the characters hands, feet and legs in motion which in turn looks like your body parts in motion and this is what disrupts your propioception.

Mirror’s Edge is going to be the game of all games in 2008 and I can’t wait to see the sequel and what kind of bodily senses it will interrupt.

Sony PS3 Reaches New Heights and Is Entered In Guinness World Records.

Ps3 folding at homeStanford University’s Folding@home program that is integrated in the Sony PS3, has reached new heights and will soon be recognized by the Guinness World Records as the most powerful distributed computing network in the world. Ps3 users that amounted to 670,000 collectively contributed to hit the petaflop mark on September 23, which is a computing milestone that has never been reached until now.   The record was initially set on September 16, 2007 by the collective efforts of PS3 users all across the world and the ps3 users alone reached the petaflop mark on September 23, 2007. The record is a testament to the widespread participation of PS3 users from around the world-currently more than 670,000 unique PS3 users have registered to the Folding@home network, bringing the overall computing power of the program to more than a petaflop. Thanks to PS3’s powerful Cell Broadband Engine(TM) (Cell/B.E.), scientists will be able to make greater progress in their studies of protein folding and its link to diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other forms of cancer.
“To have Folding@home recognized by Guinness World Records as the most powerful distributed computing network ever is a reflection of the extraordinary worldwide participation by gamers and consumers around the world and for that we are very grateful,” said Vijay Pande, Associate Professor of Chemistry at Stanford University and Folding@home project lead. “Without them we would not be able to make the advancements we have made in our studies of several different diseases. But it is clear that none of this would be even remotely possible without the power of PS3, it has increased our research capabilities by leaps and bounds.”
“To have PS3 play such a large role in allowing Folding@home to be honored by Guinness World Records is truly incredible,” said Masayuki Chatani, Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, Technology Platform, Sony
Computer Entertainment Inc. “This record is clear evidence of the power of PS3 and the contributions that it is making to the Folding@home network, and more importantly, scientific research.”
The Folding@home program was mostly leveraged only with distributed computing power of personal computers (PC) from around the world until the Ps3 contributed. The number of PCs that made up the network were roughly 200,000 which gave the program the equivalent of about one-quarter of a petaflop. On March 15, 2007, PS3 joined the Folding@home program and hasd contributed more than 670,000 unique PS3 users to the network, which in turn brought the overall computing power of the program to more than a petaflop.
Sony Ps3 Started with Folding@home and will continue to support distributed computing projects in a wide variety of academic fields. Fields such as medical, social, and environmental sciences will be the next goals of the PS3 in hopes to contribute to the advancement of science.  The above picture depicts the user interface for the Folding@home network which reminds me of one of the many ps3 strategy games.

In the last decade, often one video game system has dominated the consumer demand for the holiday season, but in 2008, we have three excellent video game systems to select from, each with their own benefits.  Xbox 360, Microsoft’s brainchild, boasts breathtaking graphical capabilities, and advanced options for multi-player through the Xbox Live network.  The Sony PS3 console offers a functional Blu-Ray player, as well as the largest library of video games on any system ever, incorporating the titles from both of their earlier PS1 and PS2 systems.  The Nintendo Wii provides hours of touch-based entertainment, with more exclusive titles than the other systems, and more games geared towards fun and a younger audience.

Whatever system you decide to buy, you’re sure to a lot of fun alone, or with friends and family over the holidays.

Fallout 3 for the PlayStation 3

PS3 games

Every so often gamers are granted one of those great ‘sleeper’ hits.  When a game is referred to as a ‘sleeper’ it often means that its coming isn’t highly anticipated by gamers or gaming publications.  Titles from game series like Grand Theft Auto or Call of Duty are never considered sleepers because their coming is well documented and the companies begin advertising for the titles ahead of time.  When Fallout 3 was released for the PS3, nobody saw it coming, but now it is being celebrated as quite possibly one of the greatest sleeper hits of all time.

Fallout 3 was created by Bethesda Software, the same company who championed the famous Morrowind series.  Though Bethesda is well renowned, Fallout 1 and 2 were cult classics for the PC, and nobody anticipated the 3rd installation would be quite so excellent.  Fallout 3 incorporates elements of survival horror, shooter, and RPG titles, and represents a flawless marriage between these genres.  Amongst PS3 games this holiday season, you can’t go wrong with Fallout 3.

Believe The Hype When It Comes To The HD Cable For PS3.

fight night roy jones      I just recently purchased a 40″ Samsung LCD 1080p so I could enjoy my ps3 to the max.  I knew that I would see a difference but I was not expecting that big of a difference.  When I connected my Sony ps3 to my new television I was blown away.  Everything was so much more clear and the 1080p was awesome and you really do need a television that can support everything the ps3 has to offer.

Now I have seen the light I wanted to follow to see where it leads.  I was using the regular old standard Sony  ps3 component video cables when I saw, “The Big Difference.” I decided to go and purchase a premium High Definition cable and see what it was all about and all i could say is, “BAM.”  The graphics were outstanding the sound quality was on demand and you could almost feel the sweat pouring off of Roy Jones Jr.  as my cousin sucker punched me.  The hype is true the graphics are real get the high definition cable and your ps3 will come alive like never before.

The PS3 is a Multimedia Powerhouse.

playstation 3 powerhouseWhat makes this ps3 such a multi-media powerhouse?  The Graphical User inter-phase that the ps3 uses is called an XrossMediaBar which is pronounced Cross Media Bar, or abbreviated XMB.  This media bar includes nine different categories which are: Users, settings, Photo, Music, Video,Game, Network, PlayStation Network, and Friends. The ps3 has the ability to store master and secondary user profiles just like your computer.  USB ports on the front of the ps3 make it compatible with USB supported keyboards, mouse, and mass storage or flash drives. It has a NetFront web browser that supports compatible file downloading.  You can perform video chat across the web through the friends menu which allows mail and emoticon and attached picture features. (PlayStation Eye or Eye toy web cam is required) You can even shop online through the PlayStation store via Network menu.

The PlayStation 3 is a multimedia powerhouse and if you are like me you want to utilize everything that your system has to offer. When you hear of all the good things the ps3 has to offer it starts to sound like ps3 music. Speaking of music ps3 offers a variety of ways you can enjoy your favorite tunes.  You can explore your favorite photos with or without a musical slide show and you can just slide in your favorite audio Cd, DVD, Blu-ray disc, Super Audio Cd or an optional USB mass storage device to enjoy your music.  Play and copy your audio CD tracks to an optional attached storage device, play video files and movies straight from the hard disk drive or any of the optional attached storage mediums.  The PlayStation 3 might not be too cost friendly to consumers as of right now. It is however, worth every cent that you spend on it.

PS3 fighting gamesThe PlayStation 3 boasts a wide variety of third party and exclusive fighting game titles, and is the premier console on the market.  Not only does the PS3 have a huge amount of unique PS3 titles, but the expansive fighting game libraries from the PS1 and PS2 are also compatible with the PS3.  This makes the selection of titles for the PS3 system twice or three times as large as its competitors.  In addition, the PS3s controller features a classic grip, design, and button placement ideal for fighting games.

Several recent PS3 fighting games are some of the highest rated on the market, with series like Soul Calibur and Marvel vs. Capcom.  In addition, soon to be released fighting titles like Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe promise to have amazing innovations in graphics and game play; further evidence of the PS3’s dominance as the fighting game console of choice.

PS3-Metal-Gear

When the original Metal Gear title was developed for the Nintendo Entertainment System, it was met with moderate success and then the series abandoned in the United States for several years.  Then, Konami returned to Metal Gear on the PS1 with Metal Gear Solid, a surprise hit that was hailed as one of the greatest action games of all time.  Since Metal Gear Solid, the character of Solid Snake and the series has continued on through the PS2 and PS3 with new villains and new environments, challenges, and weapons.

The most recent installment of the Metal Gear Solid series, Guns of the Patriots, follows the final chapter of Solid Snake as he fights against Liquid Ocelot, a twisted reincarnation of Revolver Ocelot, the classic villain from the Metal Gear Solid series.  Amongst PS3 action games, Metal Gear Solid is the undisputed king.

Will the Economic Crisis that we are going through affect your gaming?

economic graph pic    How will the gaming industry be affected by the economic crisis that we are going through? The U.S. Economy is at an all time low and big wig companies like AIG, Washington Mutual, Meril Lynch, and Fannie Mae-Freddie Mac have all taken the big plunge.  These are banks that hold the funds for the world and they have fallen. The stock market is in a state of shock loosing a trillion + dollars due to a failed bail out plan.

This is a very serious time that we are living in and what does this means to the big gaming companies that produce all the great ps3 game consoles that we have learned to embrace in this great technological era.  The seriousness of this economic crisis reaches from America and clear across to Japan.  Is the gaming industry in peril or will peoples need to feel entertained bring these big companies through?

Are giveaways that bring big ticket items worth $5.

loto winner pic    What is your opinion on taking a chance to win 1 of three big ticket items for $5 a ticket?  There is a giveaway that is going on at www.playstation3video.com and they are giving away 1 ps3 game console including 3 games and 2 Sony PSPs with gold plated faces. (C-3p0 editions)  That is a total of 3 chances of winning 1 of 3 big ticket items with a value totalling over $800.  Is it worth paying five dollars on taking a chance to win?

Some people feel that there has to be a cause for this and others feel that it is just like buying a lottery ticket.  You see an item you want and you pay money to take a chance on winning it.
